What We Thought of the Cake Maternity Bra

By Laura Silvas, RN IBCLC

If you've been online recently in search of a pumping/nursing bra, the results can be a little overwhelming. Function and comfort being at the top of the list, this usually leaves us with the frumpy, ugly styles that do nothing for our postpartum confidence. However, Cake Maternity (who doesn't love cake?!) has a solution for all of the above.

The Lotus Hands-free Pumping & Nursing Bra serves its purpose and comes in a super fun Blue Tie-Dye color. If tie-dye isn't your style, they also offer black and blush. Sizes range from XS to XL, with a helpful sizing chart listed on site.

Personally, when I search for a new nursing bra, I look for support and the ability to pump hassle-free. Working 12-hour shifts at the hospital, I have found that pumping is critical to my breastfeeding journey, and I don't have time to mess around with changing bras. So, I decided to put this bra to the ultimate test... two 12 hours shifts.

I use two different pumps while working away from my baby. My hands-free pump requires a ton of support, and I was afraid, to be honest, that this super soft bra wouldn't cut it.

I'm happy to announce that I was wrong. On the first day of my shift, I pumped every 3 hours and felt supported without an issue. Returning home after work, I could quickly pull the fabric apart to nurse my baby.

On day two, I used my double electric pump to try out the hands-free pumping part of the bra. The dual fabric opened up quickly and held the pump in place well. I was comfortable all day long, both days in the bra. I also love the cross over back feature and that the fabric doesn't have any itchy seams, tags, or annoying underwire.

This company is also Eco Friendly and doesn't use plastic wrapping, which sealed the deal for me. I would give this bra five stars and purchase it again and again.
